A shingle re-roof at Honest Roofers means a complete new shingle roof, built from the deck up. We remove all of the old roofing material down to the deck before anything new goes on. We never install new shingles over old ones. Going over an old roof doubles the weight on your home and hides problems like soft or rotted decking, failed flashing and old leaks.

How We Re-Roof a Shingle Roof

Every pitched roof we re-roof follows the same process:

  • Tear-off: all old shingles and underlayment come off, down to the deck.
  • Deck repair: any damaged or rotted wood is replaced so the new roof sits on a solid base.
  • Drip edge: installed along the roof edges to direct water away from the fascia.
  • Ice and Water Shield: installed on the lower edge, covering the first 3 feet, where wind-driven rain and gutter backups do the most damage.
  • Synthetic underlayment: installed across the rest of the deck, never tarred felt.
  • New shingles: our preferred shingle is Atlas Pinnacle Pristine with 3M Scotchgard algae protection, and we can install all brands.
  • New pipe flashings and ventilation: all new pipe flashings plus proper roof vents or a ridge vent. Chimney flashing and skylights are addressed as needed.
